Things We Can Learn From Nintendo

Image
With the shocking news concerning the death of Satoru Iwata , many fans of Nintendo and gamers have been expressing their love for the man and the company. There are numerous videos, blog posts, and other media resources that talk about the CEO. All in all, the whole situation is very saddening, but a comment I stumbled upon gave me another outlook on the situation. Although I do not have the exact comments, I can provide a brief description of them. One comment stated that "Iwata would rather have us celebrating and having a happy time, instead of crying over his loss." Another comment reminded us of the fact that "Iwata left Super Mario Maker for us to make our own games, in his absence." Although its easy to feel sad, things like this we tend to overlook. So using that as my inspiration, I decided to write a post about the positive things we can learn for Nintendo, in honor of Iwata's passing. For one, Nintendo has a very important place in my hear...

Club Nintendo Members: Tomorrow Is the Last Day to Earn Coins

Image
Good news and bad news Nintendo fans! If you're one of the lucky ones who own a Club Nintendo account, you're in for a potentially busy day. Tomorrow is officially the last day to earn coins and register products through the Club Nintendo service. After this, the program will be available until July 1st , which will be the official date of complete closure.  So if you've been saving up a few of those codes that come with the games, it's time to break them out. If you've recently purchased any games that released before January 20th , you have time to complete the surveys for them as well. Downloadable games will not require a code, and newer games have codes printed on the back of the cover, so definitely don't forget them while searching! For those who are wondering what rewards are in store, and don't really feel like checking out the site, I can say that there is a big variety . There are posters featuring Smash Brothers characters and other v...

The Amiibo Craze: A Smart Turn for Gaming

Image
Anyone who is part of the Nintendo Gaming Community has seen the tiny figurines known as Amiibo. At first glance, Amiibo might seem like a rip-off. Few people want to spend more money than necessary on a single game. However, when we look at Amiibo and similar merchandise, could the production of such items actually be a smart decision for the gaming culture? If you don't know, Super Smash Bros. is not the first game to make use of Amiibo. Other games that are featured on Nintendo consoles, such as Skylanders and Disney Infinity use a similar mechanic. While Skylanders has it's own unique set of figures, Disney makes use of popular characters from television and movies. I'm not necessarily a fan of these figures, but if you were someone who loved Disney, imagine how much of a blessing this game would be? So if we think of it in that sense when it comes to Amiibo, the appeal is obvious. Super Smash Bros. has a wide variety of characters, and almost everyone who play...

Quick Tips For Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Image
As everyone probably knows, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire has been released on the 3DS. Of course, the games sold well, as there are many Pokémon fans out there in the world. Although the game seems to be aimed at old players, there are a few newcomers at well. Luckily this time, we can easily connect and help each other out through the internet, as compared to the older days where guides and advice was hard to find.  With that being said, what possibilities does this open up? First, for both old and new alike, a few aspects of the game can be a little confusing, and there's a few helpful hints that everyone should know. Although there are a whole bunch of guides out there, the game is still new and fresh, so information may not have reached everyone in all corners of the earth.  So as of now, I'm going to be providing you a few tips and hints on the game. Even if you're a competitive pro, or a casual newcomer, check out this post, as there's a few things yo...

Thoughts on Super Smash Bros. for 3DS

Image
If you're involved in the gaming community, you've probably been notified of the recent release of Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS. If not, you're learning about it now! Smash Bros. released on October 3rd, for the North American audience. We've just learned that the Wii U version will release on November 21st, again for North America. As for me, I was lucky enough to pick up the game on release day. I'm a huge Nintendo fan and I've played all the Smash games, so I was looking forward to this one. I wasn't going into this blind of course. Before now I watched many videos of the Japanese version and even got a chance to play the special demo. I had a lot of high hopes for this game. Now that I've played the game for a good amount of time I can say that I am definitely not disappointed . This Smash feels like the best one I've ever played. Even though the hype is starting to settle down and different tactics and mechanics are coming out, the gam...

Is Ash Ketchum Really a Failure?

Image
All of us who grew up and lived in the era of Pokémon know his name. That's right, Ash Ketchum. The main character, the young ten year old boy with Pikachu by his side. We've followed his adventures for many years now, despite Ash remaining young. As a young boy, I never thought of Ash in a negative way, but as I grew older, Ash's character changed the longer the series went on, and I felt like he wasn't Ash anymore. He wasn't focused on beating others and only winning battles, but he became interested in friendship and helping his Pokémon out. He kept this mentality even if it meant letting go of some of his strongest Pokémon. So some people might think that Ash has softened up, but does this really mean he's become a failure? Is he just a mere protagonist that follows in Red's shadow? No, I don't mean Red from the manga. I'm talking about the Red we know from the many Pokémon games, the silent protagonist that became a Pokémon master. W...

Upcoming Video Games That Are Must Buys

Image
It's been a while, but I'm here with a new post! This time a different topic, video games. We may all be anime fans, but we love video games too right? It may not be true for you all, but it's definitely true for me. So aside from the hype that's running behind Smash Brothers, how about we look at a few new games for a couple of systems? Just a quick disclaimer, most of these suggestions are based on my own interests and opinions, but I try to provide a variety of games instead of ones from a single company. The format will be similar to what I've posted below. To prevent excessive text and to make this post easier on the eyes, I'll limit myself to one key game per company. Name (Game Name Here) Release Date (Date Here) Thoughts and Why Buy It? (My Thoughts) (Reasons Here) Nintendo Hyrule Warriors ~ Wii U Release Dates JPN (August 14, 2014) EU (September 19, 2014) AUS (September 20, 2014) NA (September 26, 2014) So we...

Is the Smash Leak Good or Bad?

Image
For all of those in the loop with Nintendo related games and updates or Smash Bros. in general, you might have heard about the leak that's been appearing around the internet. You can view all the details of the leak on  Kotaku . I don't really support leaking or want to spread the pictures any further, so I am not going to post them on my blog. I would like to start off saying that, with the recent video release of Shulk, many people will believe that the leak is true. However, despite this evidence, I still do not think we should jump to conclusions just yet. First of all, there has been no sort of confirmation from Nintendo about the leak. They are the ones who are producing the game, and if they haven't said that whats been posted is true, then how are we supposed to know? Furthermore, I'd like to examine the effects of the leak.  So while a lot of people are looking at this new information with happiness and excitement, others are somewhat displeased w...

Now That E3 is Over.. Let's Review

Image
I'd like to take the time to share my own thoughts about E3 and gaming. I've been looking around and seeing many different opinions and impressions. For some reason, a lot of people say E3 didn't really stand out to them. In fact, a couple say that there was absolutely nothing worth anything there. So it makes me wonder, were people watching the same broadcast? Coming from my background, I've had my hands on most of the game systems. Whether it be Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft, I've been involved with each in some way. So I feel this gives me a more open look at video games. While I obviously favor a certain company more than another, it doesn't stop me from looking at another's games. So I can say that, so far this E3 was probably one of the most exciting for me. I'll admit it right now, that I pretty much liked everything Nintendo had to offer over everything else. I'm not a person who enjoys heavy violence, maturity, and shooting...

Nintendo Press Conference Summary

Image
Hello again everyone! If you weren't up early enough, Nintendo had their press conference today! I'm glad to say that E3 has finally begun and I can't wait to see what's in store of us. I'm an avid gamer and Nintendo fan, so E3 is like heaven for me. So I'm here to bring you some info on what happened at the press conference. I'm aware that I may not be as fast as most people when it comes to news updates. However, that's not going to stop me from bringing information I find important. Onward to the news. During the press conference today we got a good look at great new features in games. The first game of course, was Smash Brothers for Wii U and 3DS. Surprisingly new characters were announced, but they weren't really the ones we were expecting. The Miis finally take their place in Smash Brothers!  While many have been begging for character customization, this is probably the closest we'll get for now. I can say that I'm pretty ex...

Nintendo Wi-Fi Shutdown: Good Memories

Image
Salutations and greetings my readers! Again, apologies for the altered posting schedule these past two weeks, I'm currently recovering from a sickness. Sadly, I wasn't able to spend the last days of Nintendo Wi-Fi playing, but I was able to reminisce of games I greatly enjoyed. For those who don't know; as of May 20th, Wi-Fi support for the old handhelds and consoles is being shutdown . This includes the DS, Wii, and DSi games. While it is easy to be angry at this, it is somewhat understandable. With the launch of the 3DS and the Wii U, Nintendo can only move forward from this point on. Managing the online servers of the old systems would be a waste of resources. Despite my predicament, I was able to enjoy a few races online with Mario Kart. I feel a great sense of sadness knowing that I'll no longer be able to pick up any of my old games and play with the stray few online. As a huge Nintendo junkie, it's easy to understand the effect this has on me and other...
